Justice Kirby To Speak At ACSA Conference

E-mail Print PDF
The organisers of the Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) national conference have announced the engagement of a high profile speaker, Michael Kirby.

The former High Court judge retired from the bench in February after an acclaimed career that spanned more than four decades.

In the High Court, Michael Kirby was often described as ‘the great dissenter’ and he will address the conference on the theme of the importance of dissent in society.

He will urge delegates to speak up for the rights of all groups of people so that nobody is left out.

The former judge has served with UNESCO, the ILO, the WHO, UNAIDS, UNDP and the Commonwealth Secretariat.

In the 1990s he was President of the International Commission of Jurists and UN Special Representative for Human Rights in Cambodia.

This year’s event has the theme ‘Get up, stand up!’ and delegates will be encouraged to speak out on aged care issues that are important to them

The conference will be held in Perth from 13-16 September.
