Written by AUSSENIOR    Saturday, 26 September 2009 17:05    PDF Print E-mail

With a wild weather week across Australia, from hail, earthquakes, bushfires to the massive iron red dust storm - you would think the end of the world is nigh, and with massive health warnings released by the government, it sure could have felt like it.

We want you to share your experiences of the Dust Storm and other environmental phenomena, and we have established a new topic on the forums just so you can share stories, photos and more!

Best posts, photos, stories and even comments will go into the draw to win 2 x tickets to October's Andre Rieu Tour (city of your choice within Australia).

Having seen dust storms come and go over the past 75 plus years, I can't comprehend the fuss the Media have stirred up . That's worse and causes more havoc and concern than the dust storms, polluting minds with fear, but maybe that is the Media's role. I recall about twenty years ago, talking with people in Kiwi land about australia's dust storms, a new Zealander said "we certainly know when you have had a dust storm in Australia, it arrives here {in NZ] about three days later"
And as for the potential problem with the run off from the rooves into the water tanks, past generations have lived all their lives with the dust residue in their tank water, which in many cases was the only source of drinking water, and we never became ill from drinking it. Maybe our immune systems were more immune living on good diets of simpler food.

i think the recent dust storm gave everyone a fright. some imagining that the end was nigh, others just angry about the extra work it entailed. imagine my shock when i went out on the back deck to attend to my cream pekingese, to find this strange looking red mini yeti sitting next to what looked like ularu and was in fact a basket load of washing, which of course will probably never be clean again.....
