Victoria's Catholic community is mourning the death of the Bishop of Sandhurst, Joe Grech.
One of Victoria's most senior Catholic figures, the Bendigo bishop was 62 and had been suffering from a blood disorder.
Australia's ambassador to the Holy See Tim Fischer says the Maltese-Australian had an 'open door' approach to all.
"He had particular roles with youth and young adults, but also with migration and refugees," he said.
"He'll be remembered for this work as well as his outstanding and generous leadership."
