Age is no barrier to technology with the Margaret River Library’s new Broadband for Seniors internet kiosk.
Broadband for Seniors is part of a $15m Federal Government initiative to increase the skills of older Australians using computers and the internet.
The local kiosk was launched on Wednesday with a morning tea and speech of welcome by shire president Ray Colyer.
The two computers are free for seniors to use, with a tutoring program available to teach seniors the basics of computer and internet use.
These include how to use a mouse, Internet Explorer, word processing, set up an email account, and internet safety.
Cr Ray Colyer said the aim is to get seniors in the community better connected.
“This will enable them to discover a whole new social experience on the web, help them to stay in touch online with friends and family and offer access to a wealth of information,” he said.
NEC Australia will manage and deliver the project, along with its consortium partners, Adult Learning Australia, Australian Seniors Computer Clubs Association and U3A Online.
Interested participants are encouraged to visit the Margaret River Library to book a session.
