New research from leading national over 50s insurance company Apia has found that Evonne Goolagong-Cawley tops the list of Australia’s favourite tennis legends from the golden era of the game.
Released to coincide with the Australian summer tennis season, Apia’s research asked survey respondents to nominate their favourite Australian tennis player from the 60s, 70s and early 80s.
Goolagong-Cawley scored the top result taking out 37% of the vote and earning her the position of Australia’s favourite tennis legend, closely followed by John Newcombe on 31%.
Ken Rosewell came in at third position with an impressive 19% of the vote, while Margaret Court (8%) and Tony Roche (4%) rounded out the top five.
Apia’s Executive Manager Distribution, Craig Dingle said that tennis was a way of life for many older Australians and Apia was pleased to be able to share in this passion for the game with their loyal customer base.
