Four popular events for senior citizens in the Camden area have been secured with a funding boost from Camden Council.
The council voted last Tuesday to increase the annual subsidy to the seniors’ program committee by $1400 to $5000 to help cover the increasing cost of the four events the committee stages for the region’s seniors each year.
According to the 2006 Census, 11,377 people aged 50 years reside in the Camden Local Government area.
Committee treasurer Bruce Bunn told local newspapers that "the extra money would go towards the spring lunch, to be held in September, as well as the Christmas lunch, Seniors’ Week concert and annual bus trip."
Mr Bunn said the council subsidy had not been increased since 2003 and extra funding was needed to cover the higher cost of food, venue hire and other expenses.
“If we didn’t receive the extra funding we would have had to scale back some of the events,” Mr Bunn said.
The next event to be held by the committee will be the spring lunch at Belgenny Farm on September 28, 2011. For other seniors events across Australia - check out our "What's On" section on this website.
