This year, the annual Heritage Perth Heritage Days program includes activities specifically for home owners with that aged, beloved building that takes more time and love to care for than expected, but rewards its owner with a charm and grace that never ceases to evoke immense pride and nostalgia.

If you have ever wondered about the history of your home or what secrets hide behind the walls, then get along to the workshop “Unlocking the History of Your Home,” presented by the Office of Heritage in conjunction with the State Library of WA.

The one hour workshops discuss the importance of our cultural heritage and the State Register of Heritage Places and how to research the history of a property. With inside tips and tricks from a professional historian, including a tour of where to locate research material in the State Library, you will soon be on your way to unlocking the history of your home.

The workshops will be held at the State Library on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 of November from 2pm. This is a FREE workshop but bookings are required, register online at www.heritageperth.com

The Cultural Centre in James Street will play host to master craftsmen plying their trade.    It is a great opportunity for people to access the knowledge of experienced and highly skilled restoration tradesmen including; Stonemasons Martin Coglan and James Mason, renowned WA artist dry Stone Walling & Random Masonry artist Antony Muia, Tuck Pointing expert Frank Smyth and joinery specialist Ken Miller.

Acknowledged as one of the best in the world, 80 year old Malcolm Pain along with other members of The Blacksmith Association of WA will show off their unique skills, as will members of the Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers Guild and The Australasian Porcelain Art Teachers. And the age old craft of designing and making stained glass will be demonstrated by artisan Kim Fitzpatrick.

In addition, across the two days stone conservators Etechnica will be using their Ecoblaster special cleaning method to clean a doorway in the oldest part of Perth’s Museum. This demonstration will provide people with an excellent opportunity to see this revolutionary method in practical use that is sure to interest people regardless of the age of their home.

Etechnica is a new small business in Perth which operates in conservation and renovation, relying on 60 years European experience.  They  do ecological soft blasting which is environmentally friendly, does not damage brickwork but removes dirt and graffiti and prepares surfaces prior to coating and restoration.   This is a fabulous breakthrough in the removal of graffiti, especially for fragile brickwork.

If people are planning to renovate, even build a new home or just love anything heritage, don’t miss the FREE workshops and craftsmen’s demonstrations at this year’s
